Two Years of Smooth x Matt Wolfe…And We’re Just Getting Started

Who wouldn’t follow this channel is the real question
If you’ve spent any time typing something like “how do I explain AI to my dad” or “can AI tell me what to make for dinner” into the YouTube search bar, there’s a good chance you’ve come across Matt Wolfe.
Matt has become one of the internet’s most trusted voices covering emerging AI tools and trends—an incredibly rare feat in a space that moves as fast (and gets as noisy) as this one.
His channel has amassed over 745K subscribers
His videos regularly rack up hundreds of thousands of views
And his newsletter, Future Tools, has nearly 200K readers
But what makes Matt’s content so special isn’t just the sheer size of the audience he’s built—it’s the way he makes things make sense.
Whether he’s covering a major model release or a niche indie tool, Matt maintains a steady, clear-eyed approach to breaking down complex topics in a way that’s accessible, interesting, and genuinely helpful. He’s curious, optimistic, and trustworthy, and that’s why so many people (the entire Smooth team included) are such big Matt fans.
This month marks two years since we started working with Matt—and it all started with a Twitter DM. Jenny came across his channel and was immediately hooked. She sent it to Josh, who shot him a quick message (screenshot for posterity, obviously).
A few emails and chats later, we were off.
We’ve been fortunate to team up with Matt on some really meaningful projects as he’s grown from a solo creator into a full-fledged media business:
Together, we’ve expanded the Future Tools newsletter—reworking the format and scaling it to 2x/week to match the momentum of Matt’s channel.
We’ve cultivated a sponsorship strategy that helps brands plug into Matt’s world without sacrificing 1) the speed with which Matt is hitting publish (near constant) and 2) the care he takes to maintain integrity on his channel.
And we’ve worked hand-in-hand to connect the dots across YouTube, email, and social—making sure each channel supports the others in a way that feels true to Matt’s voice and audience.
Matt is the kind of person you want to see win. He shows up for people, always with a smile. He’s relentlessly supportive of other creators, offering guidance or sharing his growing platform. He is serious about building an optimistic tech community, day after day.
We’re lucky to know him, luckier to work with him, and so excited for everything ahead. Oh, and last week was his birthday.
Happy (belated) birthday to Matt—and happy two years to the DM that started it all. 💜
Thanks for reading! Have a great week and we’ll see you back here next time.
